Asadollah Malek was born on August 5, 1941, in the “Darvazeh Dolat” neighborhood of Tehran, into a family from Lasht-e Nesha. His father, Abdullah Malek Goodar, was a carpenter.
Asadollah Malek began practicing and playing the violin at home as a child. After a while, he found his way to Abolhasan Saba’s class and studied with him for about three years, becoming one of his special students. Simultaneously with his studies at the conservatory, Asadollah Malek played in the National Music Association Orchestra under the direction of Ruhollah Khaleghi. In 1958, at the age of 17, he began his collaboration with the radio and experienced professional composing and soloing by creating the famous piece ” گریه لیلی ” ( گریه لیلی – Leili’s Cry ) in Dashti (with special tuning: D-E-C-A). After that, he composed and performed another Chahar Mezrab in Bayat Esfahan (with special tuning: C-A-A-E), which also became famous.
Asadollah Malek passed away on January 29, 2002, at the age of 60, after two years of illness, due to a brain tumor in Iranmehr Hospital in Tehran.
