Farhang Sharif was born on March 23, 1931, in Amol. From the age of four, he was influenced by his father’s music education and the visits of Iranian music greats to their home, especially Abdolhossein Shahnazi and Morteza Ney Davood. Farhang Sharif’s father was a pharmacist and had a lot of interaction with artists. Farhang Sharif learned the Tar from Abdolhossein Shahnazi and Morteza Ney Davood, who were great Tar players of the late Qajar and early Pahlavi periods.
At the age of twelve, he successfully performed his first solo, which was broadcast live on the radio, and subsequently accompanied the singers of most Golha programs as a solo vocalist, especially the program that he performed in Vahdat Hall in 1974 with Hossein and Asadollah Malek, Mohammad Mousavi and Mahmoudi Khansari and Amir Nasser Eftetah, the focus and clarity of his playing on stage was worth listening to.
