Fereydoon Hafezi (January 21, 1927 Kermanshah – June 6, 2013 Tehran) was an Iranian musician, composer and Tar player.
Biography and artistic activity
From his youth, he was fascinated by playing the Tar, and he had adorned this fascination with perseverance and seriousness to the extent that when he played the Tar for the entrance exam of the music school with the masters of this school, he aroused their praise and introduced him to the radio. He later went to Italy to complete his musical reserves.

Hafezi also pursued his studies in law and was the Director General of Public Relations of the Ministry of Roads for a while, but he resigned from this job due to his engagements in the field of music.

Hafezi had a 50-year history of teaching Tar and Setar. It is said that the most melodious Tar made by Master Yahya Tarsaz was given to him as a gift by Master Musa Maroufi. After Morteza Ney Davood and Abdolhossein Shahnazi, he is one of the three players who were allowed to play solo on the radio. Jalil Shahnaz, Fereydoon Hafezi and Farhang Sharif were these three players. His solo performances as well as his ensemble performances with masters and greats such as Ahmad Ebadi, Homayoun Khoram, Hassan Ali Daftari, Mohammad Mousavi, Jahangir Malek, Asadullah Malek, Majid Najahi, Reza Varzandeh, Kamran Darougheh, Mansour Saremi and Mansour Nariman, especially in the Soloists collection, have been remembered.

In addition to the Tar, which was his specialty, he also played the Oud in his youth and was skilled in playing the piano. In addition to playing various instruments, Hafezi also had a hand in composing, and many of his songs have been remembered, including the most famous of his works, “Dance of the Hair”, which has been immortalized by Delkash’s voice.

One of the admirable features and points of Hafezi’s life is his involvement in music until old age. Even at the age of 90, he was still busy transmitting his knowledge and reserves on the one hand, and composing and arranging songs on the other hand, and until the last days of his life, he did not give up trying to promote music and nurture emerging talents. His last works were recorded and arranged with the voice of Salar Aghili and the performance of the National Orchestra led by Farhad Fakhreddini.

He was honored at the 21st International Fajr Music Festival in 2005.
