Fereydoun Shahbazian (born May 21, 1942 in Tehran) is an Iranian musician, composer and conductor.
Biography and artistic activity
Fereydoun Shahbazian was born on May 21, 1942 in Fakhr Razi Street, Tehran University neighborhood. With the encouragement and guidance of his father, Hossein Shahbazian, he became interested in music and studied music and violin at the High School of Music. His first violin teacher was Ataollah Khadem Misagh, who after a while introduced him to his Russian teacher, Serge Khutsiev. He studied with Khutsiev until the end of elementary school. After that, he continued learning the violin until he obtained a diploma in playing this instrument, in the evening classes of “Luigi Passanari”, who was the concertmaster of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra at that time. At the age of 17, he joined the Tehran Symphony Orchestra led by Heshmat Sanjari, after which he started working with the Radio Flowers Orchestra. At that time, the Golha Orchestra was led by Ruhollah Khaleghi and after him, Javad Maroufi. In 1966, he became the leader of the choir and symphony orchestra of the radio.

He is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University. Shahbazian also started composing for films in the 1980s. Together with Ali Moallem Damghani, he formed the music council in Seda o Sima, which was responsible for monitoring and supporting pop music. He is currently retired from Seda o Sima and is one of the critics of Iranian pop music.

From October 2016 to April 2019, Fereydoun Shahbazian was the conductor of the Iranian National Orchestra. After resigning from the artistic management and permanent leadership of the Iranian National Orchestra, Shahbazian was appointed as the music advisor of the Rudaki Foundation, from which he also resigned on May 21, 2019.[۵]

Hossein Shahbazian, Fereydoun Shahbazian’s father, was a violinist, orchestra leader and one of Abolhasan Saba’s students. His wife, Mahour Mousaeian, is one of the photographers of Iranian cinema.

In November 2019, the unveiling ceremony of the music album “When I Returned” by Fereydoun Shahbazian was held in Charsu Cinema Campus.

In April 2021, Fereydoun Shahbazian suffered a broken bone in two areas of his right hand and pelvis while recording the music for the TV series Yavar. After being transferred to the hospital, despite the need for immediate pelvic surgery, due to the necessity of preparing the series’ music for broadcast, despite the insistence of the “Yavar” series crew, he refused to be hospitalized and operated on, and after preparing the music for 5 episodes of the series, he underwent surgery.
