Gholam Hossein Bigjekhani was born in 1297 SH in Tabriz. His father, Hossein Qoli Khan Bigjekhani, was a prominent Tar player in Tabriz. Bigjekhani started learning Tar at the age of six with his father. After his father’s death in 1310 SH, Bigjekhani continued his training with Reza Qoli Khan Zaboli Azar, his father’s student. He later married Reza Qoli Khan’s daughter.
In his youth, he became familiar with the instruments of these masters by listening to the works of Mirza Hossein Qoli, Darvish Khan, Ney Davood, and Ali Akbar Khan Shahnazi on old stone records.
Bigjekhani also learned from Iqbal Azar’s row experiences and performed with Iqbal in a concert in Tabriz Golestan Garden.
Coinciding with the establishment of Radio Tabriz, Bigjekhani started his activity in it and was the head of the Iranian Orchestra of Radio Tabriz for a while. Later, he started working at Radio Iran and also taught at the Center for the Preservation and Dissemination of Music at the invitation of Noor Ali Khan Boroumand. He also has works in arranging and performing Azerbaijani music.
His last concert was with the Chavosh group in 1363.
Gholam Hossein Bigjekhani passed away on April 13, 1987, in Tabriz 29 Bahman Hospital.
