Hossein Khajeh Amiri was born on January 1, 1933, in the city of Khaledabad Natanz, Isfahan province, in an artistic family.

After completing his primary education, he went to Tehran and met Hamid Vafadar, the brother of the great composer Majid Vafadar, at a party. Vafadar, who had heard Iraj’s impressive singing at that party, introduced him to استاد Abolhasan Saba. In 1947, Iraj entered Abolhasan Saba’s school and completed his knowledge in his presence for two consecutive years. Through Saba, he was introduced to Ebrahim Khan Mansouri, who was in charge of supervising Radio Iran. Since he was approved by Saba, he was not tested. From that date onwards, Iraj’s collaboration with Ebrahim Khan Mansouri’s orchestra began, and he performed numerous programs. After a while, in 1950, he was accepted into the military academy and there, on Friday nights from 7:30 to 8, he participated in the army program and performed with Mohammad Ali Baharlou’s orchestra.

Iraj, whose real name is Hossein, could not use his real name in performing artistic music programs due to the restrictions of the army at that time. For this reason, he chose the pseudonym Iraj, which was his brother’s name, and in these years, from 1948 to 1957, he performed with various orchestras, including the orchestras of masters Ebrahim Khan Mansouri, Abdullah Jahanpanah, Mohammad Ali Baharlou, Nasrollah Zarrin Panjeh, Mehdi Khaledi, Javad Lashkari, Bozorg Lashkari, etc. Iraj’s successes continued until he was finally invited to the Golha program by Davood Pirnia, the founder of the Golha program, in 1957. In his first collaboration with this program, he sang Barg Sabz 43 in the Shur-Abu Ata mode, in collaboration with Ali Tajvidi, Farhang Sharif, and Amir Naser Eftetah. From that time on, his collaboration with the Golha program continued.

In addition to performing various radio programs, Iraj also performed songs and vocals for Persian films, and many actors, including Mohammad Ali Fardin, Manouchehr Vosough, Reza Beyk Imanverdi, etc., lip-synced his songs. The first film in which Iraj sang was the film Rozaneh Omid (Hope Window) directed by Sardar Sagar, with songs composed by Javad Lashkari.
