Jahangir Malek was born on Bahman 29, 1311 (Feb 18, 1933) in Tehran, Rey Street. After spending his childhood and completing his primary education, he entered Darolfonoon High School and successfully obtained a diploma from this high school. His interest in playing the Tombak (Goblet Drum) began during his high school years. Hossein Tehrani, a great Tombak player, lived in their neighborhood in Koocheh Abshar, and since he was aware of Jahangir’s talent and interest, he started teaching him Tombak.
In 1332 (1953), Malek became acquainted with Ali Tajvidi in a friendly gathering and performed a piece at his request. Tajvidi, who was impressed by his playing style, introduced him to the then head of the radio, Moshir Homayoun Shahrdar. After this, Malek, at the age of 21, was invited to collaborate and play in Orchestra No. 1 led by Hosseinali Mallah and Mehdi Meftah, Orchestra No. 2 led by Majid Vafadar and Ali Tajvidi, Orchestra No. 3 led by Parviz Yahaghi and Homayoun Khorram, Orchestra No. 4 led by Abbas Shapouri, Orchestra No. 5 led by Bozorg Lashkari, and Orchestra No. 6 led by Habibullah Badiei.
After the formation of the Golha Orchestra, at the invitation of Habibullah Badiei, he started playing in this orchestra simultaneously with Amir Naser Eftetah, until 1357 (1979) when his work and activity were delayed for 10 years due to the revolution. After that, due to the conditions created, these artists were forced to stay at home, and if any work was recorded, it was mostly private.
Malek can be considered one of the most prolific musicians in Iran.
