Kambiz Roshanravan (born June 9, 1949) is an Iranian musician, composer, instrumentalist, conductor, and music teacher. As one of the prominent composers in Iranian classical and traditional music, he has created or arranged diverse works in these styles using well-known Western and Iranian forms such as symphony, sonata, symphonic poem, concerto, radifi music forms, and local music. His professional life is divided into three parts: composing, teaching, and professional activity in the music community. Throughout his career, he has created many works for film music, vocal music, symphony orchestra, and chamber orchestra. For years of effort in teaching, writing books, pamphlets, and articles in education, he is known as a knowledgeable musician in theoretical and harmonic discussions.

Roshanravan was born in Tehran. Although he had a family with religious prejudices, he showed his interest in music from childhood. He began learning music after elementary school, at the High Conservatory of Music and the National Conservatory of Music with musicians such as Hossein Dehlavi, Mostafa Kamal Pourtorab, Manouchehr Monshizadeh, Arfa Atraei, and Hossein Tehrani. After that, he entered the Faculty of Fine Arts and continued his specialized composition and piano lessons with Thomas Christian David and Emanuel Melik Aslanian, respectively. He traveled to the United States to obtain a master’s degree and graduated from the University of Southern California (USC). He later received a first-class artistic degree from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

Roshanravan’s musical style has broad dimensions due to composing in various musical forms, inspired by Iranian and Western culture. In his works, from orchestral works to film music and vocal music, different methods of Western classical music, Iranian traditional, local, modern, contemporary, and avant-garde can be observed. Due to his mastery of both Western and Iranian instruments, from the beginning of his music education, he became fully acquainted with both schools and has benefited from the combination of these styles in his works.

Roshanravan’s works are divided into four sections: orchestral and chamber, educational, film music, and album. In the orchestral and chamber section, he has composed various works in classical music and traditional music forms, and some of these works have been performed by reputable Iranian and foreign orchestras. In the field of education, he continued his activity by teaching in conservatories, universities, educational centers, publishing books, articles, pamphlets, and giving speeches, and the book Comprehensive Applied Harmony is considered one of his outstanding works in this field. He started his activity in cinema with the film The Traveler (1974) directed by Abbas Kiarostami, and during this time, he has created more than one hundred soundtracks for films, television series, and animations, and for directors such as Amir Naderi, Khosrow Haritash, Fariborz Saleh, Saeed Nikpour, Pouran Derakhshande, Mehdi Fakhimzadeh, Tahmineh Milani, Rasoul Sadrameli, Mojtaba Raei, Yadollah Samadi, etc. He has also collaborated in vocal music and album production with singers such as Mohammadreza Shajarian, Shahram Nazeri, Alireza Eftekhari, Bijan Bijani, Mohammad Esfahani, Alireza Ghorbani, Siamak Aligholi, etc.
