Mohammad Ghavihelm (born September 22, 1951 in Tehran) is an Iranian percussionist. He has held numerous concerts and released albums with Mohammad Reza Lotfi inside and outside of Iran.
Biography and artistic activity
Mohammad Ghavihelm was born in 1951 in Tehran. He learned the first lessons of local music of different regions of Iran from his uncle and became acquainted with Tombak by his parents from the age of five. At the age of eleven, he entered the Music Conservatory and learned Iranian classical music there. He is also a graduate of the Paris Conservatory and after a while turned to learning Western classical music. In 1978, he went to France to complete his repertoire under Silvio Gualda to study percussion instruments. At the same time that he was away from Iran, he continued to perform Iranian music. In addition to teaching Western percussion instruments at the Conservatory of Pleso, Ans and École Nationale de Bourges, he holds gatherings on the art of improvisation of Iranian percussion instruments. He is active both in the field of recording and on the concert stage and has appeared many times in festivals and concerts in European and Asian countries, as well as in the United States. Ghavihelm has collaborated with prominent Iranian musicians such as Hossein Alizadeh and Mohammad Reza Lotfi. He also collaborated on an album with Italian musician Luigi Ceccarelli in 1996. In 2005, he also released the album Zarbing in collaboration with Edison Studio by the Italian publisher CNI.
