Seyyed Mohammad Kazem Mousavi Shooshtari was born on May 2, 1946, in Ahvaz. Initially, he was interested in other improvements, but after hearing the sound of Hassan Kassaei’s Ney (Persian reed flute) on the radio, he became deeply fascinated by the sound of the Ney. In 1967, he was introduced to the radio by Ahmad Ebadi, and in 1971, he started working at the Center for Preservation and Dissemination of Music.
He was a member of the Iranian Music Masters group under the direction of Faramarz Payvar, and performed with this group in Iran and other countries. He has also collaborated with Mohammad Reza Shajarian in works such as Nava and Sar-e Eshgh.
In the 1980s, Mohammad Mousavi had numerous collaborations with Parviz Meshkatian and Mohammad Reza Shajarian, which resulted in private recordings, some of which have been released. In the 1990s, he also performed and recorded works with the vocals of Shahram Nazeri and the Iranian Music Masters group. In 2008, after years of silence, he held a concert in the small hall of the Ministry of Interior. In addition to the Ney, Mohammad Mousavi is also familiar with playing the violin (in the Iranian style) and the Setar.
