Paviz Meshkatian was born in Neyshabur in 1955. He learned the basics of music from the age of six with his father, Hassan Meshkatian, who was a master of playing the Santur and familiar with the violin and Setar. He continued to learn music while studying in his hometown, Neyshabur, and continued to learn and practice with his father until the end of high school. In 1974, he entered the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran and learned Mirza Abdullah’s Radif from Nourali Boroumand and traditional music Radif from Dariush Safvat.
Simultaneously with Radif training, he learned the basics of Iranian music from masters such as Mohammad Taghi Massoudieh, Mehdi Barkeshli, Abdullah Davami, Saeed Hormozi and Yousef Foroutan. He continued playing the Santur very seriously at the Center for Preservation and Dissemination of Music and was able to achieve special and remarkable skill in playing this instrument, and he was also able to do many great works in the field of composing and playing the Santur, especially in the field of making ensemble (orchestral) pieces, composing and also solo performances. During these years, Meshkatian performed numerous concerts with singers such as Parisa and Hengameh Akhavan, and in 1977, he formed the Aref group.
In the Barbad music test, which was held by the initiative of Nourali Boroumand, he won first place in the Santur field with Pashang Kamkar and with Dariush Talaei, he won the ممتاز مقام in Radif playing.
Paviz Meshkatian passed away on September 21, 2009, at his home in Tehran at the age of 54 due to heart failure.
