Although my heart is bleeding from the sorrow of separation,
My joy in your sorrow is greater than my sorrow!
Every night I contemplate and say, O Lord,
If separation is like this, what is union like?
Sama (Sufi whirling dance), crimson wine, and moon-like beauties,
If an angel sees them, they will fall into the well.
How can I close my eyes? For seeing the friend,
From my soil, all narcissus will sprout instead of grass.
Anyone who gains knowledge of the joy of the beloved’s love,
It would be a pity for them to be aware for even a moment.
Without your face, may the world-burning sun not exist,
And without you, may the world-illuminating lamp not shine.
May no one be as badly taught as I am with your union.
May the day I do not see you not come.
I have neither patience nor heart for your love.
Without your face, I have neither reason nor heart in place.
This sorrow that I have is Mount Qaf, not sorrow.
This heart that you have is flint stone, not heart.
Since the work of my heart remained knotted with his tress,
On every vein of my soul, a hundred desires remained knotted.
There was hope from crying, alas, alas!
That too remained knotted in my throat on the night of union.

Drink wine, for the sun shines in the tavern,
Drink wine, for the sun’s face has blossomed with drunkenness.
Drink this wine that has come from paradise, this cup from Jamshid.
Drink, get drunk, and forget the worries of the world.
May our intoxication be the source of our happiness.
Be happy, drink from a cup from which the sun has drunk wine.
Put your lips to a cup that Jamshid has put his lips to.
Drink wine at this happy time, O moon-like heart-inflamer,
Be happy for Nowruz, for Nowruz, for Nowruz.
Be happy, drink from a cup from which the sun has drunk wine.
Put your lips to a cup that Jamshid has put his lips to.
Drink wine at this happy time, O moon-like heart-inflamer,
Be happy for Nowruz, for Nowruz, for Nowruz.

I said, “When will your mouth and lips fulfill my desires?”
He said, “With eyes, they will do as you say.”
I said, “Your lip demands the tribute of Egypt.”
He said, “In this transaction, they will make less loss.”
I said, “Do not be an idol worshiper, sit with the Eternal.”
He said, “In the street of love, they do both this and that.”
I said, “The air of the tavern takes sorrow from the heart.”
He said, “Happy are those who make a heart happy.”
I said, “What good is it for an old man to have ruby-sweet lips?”
He said, “They make him young with a sugar-sweet kiss.”
I said, “The prayer for his government is Hafez’s litany.”
He said, “The angels of the seven heavens make this prayer.”

A call came at dawn from our tavern,
“O Rind (libertine), ruined, crazy one of ours,
Arise, let us fill the cup with wine,
Before they fill our cup.”

It is dawn, arise, O source of grace,
Softly, softly, drink wine and play the harp.
For those who remain do not remain long,
And those who have gone, no one comes back.

Arise and do not grieve for the passing world,
Be happy and spend a moment in joy.
If there were loyalty in the nature of the world,
The turn would not have come to you from others.

It is a cup that reason creates and kisses a hundred times
this ephemeral potter makes this exquisite cup and hurls it to earth again

Until we clap our hands together in agreement,
We will not step on sorrow with joy.
Let us arise and take a breath before dawn,
For this dawn will break many times when we do not breathe.

This caravan of life passes wonderfully,
Seize a moment that passes with joy.
O cupbearer, why do you worry about the sorrow of the revelers tomorrow?
Bring the goblet forward, for the night is passing.

I wish there were a place to rest,
Or there was a way to reach this distant path.
Or after a hundred thousand years, from the heart of the earth,
Like green hope, there was sprouting again.

A breath of life remains in me by the effort of the cupbearer,
Nothing but disloyalty remains from the company of people.
Nothing but one glass from last night’s wine remains,
I do not know what remains of life.

🎶🎶🎶🎶

With me, O idol; make your heart one with mine
If I don’t surrender my head, then complain
I have become mad, for God’s sake
Make a chain from that tress and desire
Won’t you ever have mercy one night
On the color and face of mine, like gold
You are a cypress and a flower; I am your shadow
I am killed by you; you are my Haidar
With me, O idol; make your heart one with mine
If I don’t surrender my head, then complain
The garden and my fruit have become fresh from him
My flower branch; my water lily
Your lovely eye will not have mercy
On the lament and this tearful eye of mine
Your beautiful face is my religion and heart
Your sweet scent; my prophet
I won’t drink wine, but if I do
He kisses the goblet of mine
The one who I am, bound to him
He circles around my head
With me, O idol; make your heart one with mine
If I don’t surrender my head, then complain

🎶🎶🎶🎶

This heart bears your mark, it cannot be elsewhere
Without everyone, it can be endured, without you, it cannot be endured
You are my wine and my hangover, my garden and my spring
You are my sleep and my peace, without you, it cannot be endured
Sometimes you turn towards loyalty, sometimes you turn towards injustice
You are mine, where are you going? Without you, it cannot be endured
You are my honor and glory, you are my kingdom and wealth
You are my pure water, without you, it cannot be endured
Without you, I do not enjoy life, without you, I do not enjoy death
How can I bear the grief of you? Without you, it cannot be endured

🎶🎶🎶🎶

The army of love has set up camp again towards my neighborhood
Seeing the blackness of the city of the heart, it attacked entirely towards me
Your love is my enemy and has taken its place in my heart, see
How well my enemy has settled in my house
Killing me as a witness has been your desire from eternity
Being killed in love has been my desire forever
The blackness of your hair has blackened my day

🎶🎶🎶🎶

O King, I mention you, for you are pure and divine
I will not go except on the path that you guide me
I seek all your court, I search all from your grace
I say all your monotheism, for you are worthy of monotheism
You are merciful, you are wise, you are great, you are generous
You are the representative of grace, you are worthy of praise
It is not possible to describe you, for you do not fit in understanding
It is not possible to seek your likeness, for you do not come into imagination
It is not possible to describe you, for you do not fit in understanding
It is not possible to seek your likeness, for you do not come into imagination
The lips and teeth of Sanai all say your monotheism
Perhaps he has a way of escape from the fire of hell

🎶🎶🎶🎶

Everyone has a desire in their head and a task ahead
I, poor thing, am caught in the desire of my own heart
You are with me and the clamor of rivals behind
And I am with you, taking the path to the desert ahead
I never thought that you would be with me
Since you came into my hands, O morsel beyond expectation

🎶🎶🎶🎶

O God, when will this night end?
When will another world come to this world?
May I see him enter through the door
I no longer have the strength for loneliness
Without his face, where is my patience?
Alas from the pain of loneliness
Like a dream in the nights, O God, so that I may find release from sorrow
For I no longer have the strength for separation
Come and see that my heart is bleeding from sorrow, tell me, where are you?
