I don’t see anyone to help, what happened to the friends?
When did friendship come to an end, what happened to the lovers?
The water of life has become dark, where is Khidr of auspicious feet?
Blood dripped from the branch of the rose, what happened to the spring breeze?
No one says that anyone had the right to friendship
What has befallen those who know the right, what happened to the friends?
A ruby has not emerged from the mine of generosity for years
What happened to the sunshine and the effort of the wind and rain?
This land was the city of friends and the land of the kind
When did kindness come to an end, what happened to the city dwellers?
They have thrown the ball of success and grace into the middle
No one enters the field, what happened to the riders?
Hundreds of thousands of flowers bloomed and no bird sang
What happened to the nightingales, what happened to the thousands?
Venus does not play well, unless her oud is burnt
No one has the taste of drunkenness, what happened to the drinkers?
Hafez, no one knows the secrets of God, be silent
Who are you asking what happened to the cycle of time?

For years, the heart sought the Jam-e Jam from us
And it desired from the stranger what it had itself
A gem that is out of the shell of existence and place
It was seeking from the lost ones on the seashore
I took my problem to the Pir-e Moghan last night
Who was solving the riddle with the confirmation of sight
I saw him happy and smiling, with a cup of wine in his hand
And in that mirror, he was watching a hundred kinds of spectacles
I said: “When did the wise man give you this world-seeing cup?”
He said: “The day he was making this azure dome”
I said to him, “What is the chain of the tresses of beauties for?”
He said: “Hafez was complaining about his lovelorn heart!”
