What became clear from the head of the tavern is this:
That the cure for old grief is old wine.
They did not criticize the wine except for the bitterness of its taste,
Unaware that it is sweeter than the palms of sweet-handed ones.
The point of love was the center of the compass of existence,
What was outside the circle is reason and religion.
In salvation from the sorrow of my love, all friends pray,
United and unaware that it is a curse for me.
***********
You have made the thistle thorn my pillow,
My lament reaches Keyvan every moment.
You have given everyone a share of sustenance,
You have given everyone’s pain a healer.
O God, where is my share at last?
I am dying of longing, where is my healer?
The answer came, O distraught one,
Wail in this court as much as you can.
That is not Layla’s job, that is my job,
The beauty of the beautiful is a reflection of my face.
I gave her two black eyes,
When did I tell her to desire Majnun?
***********
I came back, I came back, I came for that beloved,
Look at me, look at me, I have come here for refuge.
