This collection has been prepared and arranged by Siavash Nikpay and has been provided to us thanks to him.

In the second part of this collection, Siavash Nikpay has sat down for a conversation with Hossein Behrouzinia.

Hossein Behrouzinia entered the Iranian Music Conservatory at the age of 9 and started playing the Tar under the supervision of Reza Vahdani, and learned to play the Oud with Mansour Nariman, and learned the Iranian music repertoire from Mohammadreza Lotfi.

Behrouzinia’s talent blossomed so quickly that at the age of 17, he was invited to work and teach at the Center for the Preservation and Propagation of Iranian Music.

Opportunities and advancements followed each other so quickly that he was asked to take responsibility for the production and education of that center.

He has always strived to teach the Barbat and train students. He has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America and has held many concerts. He has also collaborated with prominent Iranian groups and orchestras such as the Iranian String Orchestra, the Aref Group, and the Molana Group, and has been continuously collaborating with the Dastan Group as a Barbat player since 1992.

During these years, he has collaborated with a number of prominent singers, including Mohammadreza Shajarian, Shahram Nazeri, Parisa, Sima Bina, Alireza Eftekhari, Homayoun Shajarian, and Salar Aghili.

Behrouzinia plays the Barbat in the Iranian style, which distinguishes him from Arab or Iranian Oud players who play the Oud in the Arab style.

In 2003, he received the (First Order of Arts) medal, the highest honor, from the Minister of Culture.

Hossein Behrouzinia, after centuries, with the collaboration of Master Ebrahim Ghanbari Mehr, revived the Barbat instrument and introduced it to the Iranian music community.
